Xeomin is a type of botulinum toxin, called incobotulinumtoxinA. It is an FDA-approved chemical that is used to reduce the appearance of age lines on the face. Unlike dermal fillers, Xeomin is a neuromodulator – a chemical that blocks neural impulses.
Wrinkles are formed when the neural signals passing between the brain and the facial muscles cause excessive movement in the face. This can loosen the skin and make it sag, forming wrinkles. Xeomin inhibits these neural signals from passing from the brain to the facial muscles, thereby preventing movement of the face. When the muscles stay still, the skin stays tight and line-free.
Both Botox and Xeomin are derived from the botulinum toxin, and they are both neuromodulators, but the way they function differs. Botox isn’t a pure botulinum toxin.
