Why Massage Therapy?
Massage has become well known for its pampering purposes that clear your mind and relaxes your body. This popular view does not take into consideration its many health benefits. Evidence supports that many ancient civilizations of China, Japan, India, Rome, Greece, and Mesopotamia believed in its therapeutic and healing benefits. Some believe that massage originated as a sacred system of natural healing for illness, injury, pain, and stress.
Massage Therapy for Anti-Aging
Recent studies have shown that massage therapy can provide much more than this “feel good” effect. Because massage increases our overall psychological feeling of wellness, it often prevents ailments that are a result of aging. Massage therapy should be considered an important part of your anti-aging regimen at You Only Younger.
Benefits of Massage Therapy
Participating in a monthly massage program has numerous benefits:
- Decrease stress and its health-related issues
- Improves circulation
- Boosts immunity
- Prevents muscular strain
- Improves posture and alignment
Stress is unavoidable. However, it is a significant aging factor and health risk. Reducing stress can affect the quality of life and appearance. Massage can help combat this and reduce the need for injectables and other medical aesthetic services. Massage stimulates the release of oxytocin, endorphins and delta brainwaves that encourages the body to slow down your heart rate and breathing, relax your musculature, decrease your pain sensitivity, and induce deep sleep.
Improving circulation through regular massage aids your body in waste removal of toxins, fluids, pathogens, and dead cells, etc. This process assists the body by distributing immune cells to help filter out harmful agents and prevent toxic waste accumulation, resulting in inflammation, pain and an overtaxed immune system that is not able to fight off disease.
As we age, we require our bodies to accommodate our weight fluctuations which cause added stress to our circulatory, digestive and nervous systems. This often results in muscle and joint strains and sometimes posture alignment to compensate for the pain associated with it. Regular massage therapy can aide with musculoskeletal issues, arthritic disease, joint and nerve related pain. Ultimately, you may experience a more balanced and elongated body as the muscles are loosened and stretched through manipulation and returned to their natural skeletal position.
Types of Massage
At You Only Younger, we provide several massage therapies to address all your needs. You may select the service that interests you, but our Licensed Massage Therapist will have a thorough consultation with you to discuss your concerns and optimal wellness treatment plan.
Specialized Body Therapy – Our most popular service is the Specialized Body Therapy. Rarely is there a “one size fits all” treatment that corrects all ailments. We all have different shaped bodies that deal with various types of stress in different ways. The Specialized Body Therapy is a custom massage designed for only YOU.
This body therapy combines varying modalities listed below, as well as, myofascial release, to relieve your specific aches and pains. Myofascial release relieves muscle shortness and tightness through massaging the myofascial connective tissue that is often tight and stiff which limits flexibility and range of motion. Often times, tools are used to manipulate the myofascial tissue to aid in reducing the tension, therefore lessening the pain.
We also provide Prenatal Body Therapy as part of a Specialized Body Therapy. Many mothers’ experience different areas of discomfort and pain based on how their baby is positioned. We are happy to provide this customized service after the first trimester.
Specialized Body Therapy is the most requested service because you leave your treatment in the hands of the licensed professional who can customize the treatment for your areas of concern. If you don’t know what body therapy to choose, start with the Specialized Body Therapy. You won’t regret it!
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy – Many of our clients experience benefits from Lymphatic Drainage Therapy. Everyday life causes our body to build up toxins. These can get clogged in our body’s natural filter, the lymphatic system, resulting in inflammation and potential circulation issues and a weakened immune system. Although the lymphatic drainage technique was originally developed for those suffering from Lymphedema, many people benefit from the detoxing and purifying effects of this therapy with a renewed appearance and revitalized. A combination of light movements that include gliding, compressing, stretching, and cupping motions to stimulate the lymphatic system without compressing the vessels, allowing the lymph to flow and thus improve the function of the immune system and often reduce inflammation and pain. A Mini Lymphatic Drainage Session is a must to open up those tired eyes and remove those bags for a big event!
Cupping Therapy – Often in combination with Lymphatic Drainage, cupping uses vacuum therapy with specially designed plastic cups to relieve pain, tension, and soreness. Cupping can aid with detoxification, speed up the healing of bruises, and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Contrary to popular belief, cupping does not create a bruise or hickey. The cupping marks that visually resemble a bruise, are the stagnant blood or toxins that have been moved from deeper layers where it has caused pain, to the surface. This process allows for the injury to heal faster by allowing oxygen and nutrients to the injured area.
Swedish and Hot Stone Body Therapy – You Only Younger also offers more traditional modalities, Swedish and Hot Stone Body Therapy. These can be booked as a “stand alone” service but is most effective when incorporated into a Specialized Body Therapy treatment.
Kinesio Taping – Another service to help you feel your very best is Kinesio Taping, often referred to as KT Tape. Kinesio taping provides support for injured muscles and joints. The placement of the Kinesio Tape can create a lifting effect to increase blood and lymphatic flow to promote faster healing. This special tape is thin, elastic cotton with an adhesive backing that is very similar to the elasticity and thickness of the human skin. Because of this, the tape can be worn without constricting, binding or restriction of movement for several days to a week. Once only used by professional athletes to enhance performance, this has become an essential tool for rehabilitation, correct alignment, and pain management. Different taping methods and tension are used to manipulate the skin and allow the lymphatic fluid to move through the fascia more freely, thus releasing toxins and increasing blood flow to relieve pain and discomfort. The ability to correctly align posture is essential to train your body on correct posture to prevent future injury. Many clients find Kinesio Taping useful to prevent common back, neck and should pain by training their body on correct posture for desk sitting, driving and standing. It has been very helpful for posture alignment and relieves back pain for our prenatal mothers.
